The Ronald McDonald House of Durham is just a few Last Big Steps away from finishing an eight-year campaign to build a major addition, nearly doubling the number of families we can help. We have raised more than $6 million and are in the final stages of construction of the new building, connected to the main House. This will go a long way toward meeting the increasing demand as Duke Medical Center grows.

The goal of the Last Big Steps Campaign is specifically to raise the final funds needed to finish out the new addition and make our House a home. The Last Big Steps will raise money to buy all the furniture and appliances for the new addition. Each suite will be equipped with two double beds and other bedroom furniture, a kitchen table and chairs, a sofa bed and side chairs. Appliances will include a refrigerator, microwave, stackable washer and dryer, and television. Each room’s furniture and appliances will cost about $5000. The RMHD Annual Fund will continue to provide the ongoing operating support for the House, which covers everything from staff salaries and utilities to basic food in the shared family kitchen. We ask all of our regular Annual Fund donors to make that your first priority, but we hope you will make a second gift this year to the Last Big Steps campaign.
